First, let's clear the dark cloud shrouding your mind:

You will have the opportunity to get to know the seniors, both brothers and sisters, better. As they have already been in the UK and Ireland for quite some time, surely they will have a lot of interesting stories to share. Ask them just about anything - the cheapest house to rent, the best place to shop for groceries, the university timetable, sports and recreation, or even the closest Malaysian restaurant available. Who knows, maybe if you're lucky the seniors will foot the bill during the first few days you're in the UK or Ireland. Yes, it does happen.

Studying abroad and experiencing the four seasons sure seems like a lot of fun. However, as a Muslim, it is more than just doing well academically and securing a first class honours degree - we need to strike a balance between this world and the world hereafter as well. That is why we will also include an intimate discussion on traveler's fiqh and the issues surrounding the practising of Islam in the West, especially in the UK and Ireland.

JOM! will provide you with the opportunity to make new friends, some of them will be your future course mates and attend the same university as yours. The main campus where most undergraduates go to bears the postcode SW7, possibly the most expensive neighbourhood in the Europe, South Kensington. Thus, all the embassies crowd the place - Malaysian High Commission is just two stops away. OK, enough with the Wiki-like tone. IC just have lots to offer and I can assure you that the experience you will get here and in the UK is definitely one of a kind.

Facilities

IC seems to have everything that you need! Libraries, gyms, sports centre, you name it. Prayer room is also available. One thing that I don't think any other universities have is Royal Albert Hall! Our graduations are held here. You just have to be here to see them all. =D

Course

The courses that IC offers range from Engineering, Medicine and Natural Sciences. Now, that we have our own Business School, Business-based subjects are also available but only for post-graduates and joint-degree programmes. In each of the departments, I can confidently say that you will find at least one Malaysian. For my course, Biochemistry, we have 10 Malaysians out of 120 and 3 of us are muslims!

Accommodation

First years usually opt for the halls of residence and IC has lots of them. Some of them are on campus - expensive but you won't have to spend for travelling daily. Some may also be in walking distances and cheaper while others will require you to travel by bus or tube. But, you can always choose to walk. After all, 30 to 40 minutes walk is not that bad. =)

For the others ie, non-fresher, private housings are probably the best option. Bear in mind that any houses in the vicinity will cost you a fortune! So, we Malaysians usually rent houses out of Zone 1; partly because Zone 2 and 3 are cheaper and they have mosques as well! To name a few, North and East London both got their own mosques in Zone 2.

When I was in the first year, I always found my room to be a bit too boring and depressing. So, I spent most of my time pestering abang-abang at their homes. =p

Life as a Muslim

The muslim community here is huge! We actually have a Muslim Medics Society besides the IC Islamic Society (ISoc) - that's how big it is. We used to share the prayer room among brothers and sisters. But Alhamdulillah, now the ISoc can afford to rent another room for the sisters. The brothers here are all nice and friendly.

In terms of living as a muslim, I would say that with all of the temptations around, I'm glad that I have good muslim brothers who are always there to support me. InshAllah, everyone is here for you. =)

Halal Food

When it comes to halal food on campus, we have a variety of choices here. The Junior Common Room(JCR), Main Dining Hall and more! Each department also have their own cafes. By default, all chicken (not the processed ones) served by Imperial is halal. So, you don't have to worry about being a vegetarian here. The best spot to dine is most probably the Prayer Room. =D The brothers here sell different kinds of food - nasi lemak, nasi goreng, chicken with rice. Yummy! And they are affordable too!

If you're into something different, South Kensington does not have a lot to offer. However, there's a halal Subway and the epic kebab shop named Bosphorus within walking distance from campus. But, don't fear as London is generous with its numerous halal restaurants. With super efficient transportation, you can get to any of these restaurants in a jiffy. Try Paddington for a wide range of Malaysian restaurants. ;)

And for those who'd like to cook, halal butcher is also accessible. Just ask the abang-abang or kakak-kakak around. ^.^

Malaysian Community

London as a whole has a huge Malaysian community and IC pretty much portrays that on its own. If I were to count only the Malays here, it's already like a kampung melayu. Quoting a friend, "Pandang sana, pandang sini, semua muka makan belacan". Sometimes, I don't feel like I'm in London at all.

What to Prepare

First, prepare yourself for a breath-taking experience in London, Imperial especially.

Second, get my contact details.

Third, contact me and bombard me with questions. I don't bite. =p

I'm a bit all too excited to meet the new faces next year. I'm sure you are as well! =)

Hope to see you this October! InshAllah.

Contact Person

Izzat Syazwan bin Md Yusoff (Za'ba)
BSc Biochemistry
+447564107292 (UK)
+60176423310 (Malaysia)
my.izzat.syzwn@gmail.com
ism09@ic.ac.uk

Muhammad Hamidi bin Yusoff (Midi)
BSc Biology
+447707237090 (UK)
+60134513704 (Malaysia)
hamidiyusoff@gmail.com
mhy09@ic.ac.uk

Akmal Hayat bin Jusoh (Akmal)
MEng Mechanical Engineering
+447411630169 (UK)
+60194561232 (Malaysia)
ev_12mv2@yahoo.com
ahj110@ic.ac.ukIzzuddin Yussofhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16294688607604961268noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1701981143273245818.post-9369118655527975752011-05-07T16:30:00.004+01:002011-05-19T05:11:51.915+01:00The University of Liverpool
Facilities

Gymnasium, swimming pool, library, football pitch, surau (in university), mosque (20min walking from university), recreational park (santai2 smbil study), guild of student (place for students to 'lepaking').

Course

Engineering(civil, mechanical, mechatronics, computer science), medics, physics, chemistry, maths, biology, architecture

Accommodation

Usually students who come to liverpool will choose to live in the student halls which are provided by the university. Example of such university halls normally occupied by the students are the Philharmonic court and mulberry court. There are also private halls, such as monument building, beacon building which is not under the university but it is under management of the landlord. Private halls still have the same concept as university halls. A huge advantage of living in the hall is that there is no need to manage utility bills since it is already been taken care of by the university or the landlord himself. Opportunities of interacting with fellow international students is also widely open as well. However, there are students who choose to live in rental housing. Of course, you'll need help from the Malaysian Society (MSC) to handle these matters. The advantages are relatively low monthly payments compared with payments to stay in the hall. The most popular place amongst the Malaysian society is to rent a house in Kensington, LIVERPOOL.

Halal Food

Almost all goods are sold here. Do not worry. But, there are some products recommended by us to bring along to Liverpool:

1) anchovies (expensive here)
2) maggi other than curry
3) drink 3 in 1
4) belacan, cencalok, budu

and any other products that you feel do not have here.

Malaysian Community

In liverpool, basically most of the Malaysians will join these two society which is Liverpool Malaysian Society(LMS) and Malaysian Speaking Circle (MSC). LMS is for Malaysian including Chinese, Indians and Malays as well. But the most active society will be MSC which are all Malays - undergrads and postgrads with their family. MSC will organise many programme and activities such as Eid celebration, BBQ, Bulan Sukan Liverpool (BSL), Islamic Talks, Family day, management of new students and many more. There are approximately 3++ Malays in Liverpool. Being a small community, we are able to know each other closely. You will really feel at home eventhough you're living in another country. =)

Contact Person

muhammad hakim razali, cannonboyz_03@yahoo.com

ikhwan moeiid hasim, neverwinter_imh@yahoo.com.my

muhammad faiz mohamed khalid, fz_khld@yahoo.comIzzuddin Yussofhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16294688607604961268noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1701981143273245818.post-28795571950847560022011-05-07T16:25:00.007+01:002011-05-18T17:36:35.156+01:00University of SouthamptonHi there, if you are looking for GREAT education at a prestigious university, one with a warm and friendly community, but without the hectic and rushing city life, here is your answer. University of Southampton. Keep on scrolling down and see what awaits YOU here.

Facilities

The university campus style means that you will have to move around a bit, from one building to another to attend your lectures. But this sure does give you some breathing space after a lecture and it is not tiring at all since all of the buildings are within walking distance. And you will also notice just how diverse the university community can be. As you walks to your next lecture you’d see irish, canadians, arabs, africans, chinese, thai, korean and even other malaysians walking around as well, going to their own lectures.

In term of facilities, the university goes to great lengths in trying to give what the student wants. For example in sport the Southampton University is very proud of the Jubilee Sports Centre which is a state-of-the-art £8.5 million complex, located next to the Students’ Union on the Highfield Campus. It includes a six-lane 25-metre swimming pool, a split-level gym with 140 fitness stations - one of the largest facilities of any UK university, a magnificent eight-court sports hall, used for badminton, netball, volleyball and basketball. It is the only hall in the region suitable for international basketball matches. There is also a second sports hall which is used for five-a-side football, cricket, handball, frisbee and roller hockey. There is room for any sport that you like here. One of the quickest ways to make friend is through sport. So feel free to join any games. There is also an open field at Stoneham where we (the Malaysian student) play touch-rugby, football and volley ball. This is where the undergrads and postgrads of Southampton University really get to know each other.

The university strongly believes that Arts play an essential role in linking the University to the local and regional communities in Southampton and Winchester. Highfield Campus hosts three internationally celebrated arts venues;
1. The Nuffield Theatre
2. The Turner Sims Concert Hall
3. The John Hansard Gallery
The Hartley Library is a great place to study with a wide range of materials (books, journal, and research thesis), wi-fi services, lots of computer, it simply create a condusive environment to study.

And not to forget there is also a prayer room complete with a toilet and wudu’ facilities for us Muslim to perform our daily solat in Jemaah. It can be use 24 hours so even though the Subh is around 4 am in the morning during May onwards you can still go to the ‘surau’ and find a Jemaah praying there. The Friday prayer is usually conducted in a larger hall just upstairs.

Course

Southampton is certainly famous with it Engineering courses, as you can see big names like, IBM, SONY, Rolls Royce, and even the UK Navy army invest are huge amount of money for the university research and facilities. You will be amaze at the people you can meet here for example the internet founder Tim Bernes Lee works here. So for you guys who are coming to study engineering you can rest assured that University of Southampton is definitely one of the best in UK. For your first and second year you will learn the core subject that is sort of building a good foundation of your engineering knowledge before you embark on your own path during your 3rd and 4th year studies.

Engineering courses are not your only option at Southampton. The university does have a large portion of Malaysian students studying economics and actuary science, medicine was famous a few years ago and also a lot of Maths teacher came to Southampton as well.

Is it difficult? Are there going to be lots of new things?

Well it sure is tough otherwise there is not much point entering university. But worry not. As long as you don’t skip too much lecture, do your assignments and reports, a little bit of revision, I’m sure you will be fine. You will have the time to adjust yourself to the new university learning method and timetable. And if you really feel you need help, the seniors are always around and more than happy to give a few tips.

Accommodation

The University offers more than 5000 places in 20 halls of residence and is one of the largest providers of accommodation to students in the UK.

Usually for the first year the student will opt to stay at the halls. The most famous hall is the House of Montifiore at Wessex Lane. The bus service from Montifiore to university is every 10 minutes. How much is the bus fare? Don't worry about it! It is included in the accommodation fee. You can use the bus service to go to the city centre as well. That is why most of the first year students choose to stay in the halls.

If you want to stay in the house, there are lots of houses available to students around the university area. Usually the postgraduates live in such places.

Life as a Muslim

As there is a large number of Muslim community here in Southampton it is only natural that there is an Islamic association. It is known as the Southampton ISOC (Islamic society). It is a very active society with the aim of taking care of the muslims at welfare, creating an environment of unity, catering to spiritual needs of Muslim students and also encourage learning and discussion about Islam. They have weekly Islamic circles, sports sessions and involved in interfaith.

In term of daily prayer, there is always a jemaah for every prayer time every day. After Maghrib usually there will be a 10-30 minutes of lesson from a Doctor who happens to have very deep knowledge about Islam as well. Grab this chance to share your opinion in Islam with others from all over the world and also increase your understanding towards this wonderful Deen.

Halal Food

Well, getting Halal food is not very difficult here. Just within 6 minutes of walking from the university you will see a selection of Halal fast food restaurant. Mainly they serve kebab, chicken and fries. The price are reasonable.

In terms of Halal meat the Portswood and St Mary area have big store that offer you not just Halal meat but also the ingredients that you need to cook your favorite dishes.

Malaysian Community

The Malaysian Student Association (MSA) of Southampton is the body that is usually in charge of holding events for the Malaysians in Southampton.
A lot of activity was planned throughout the year such as BBQ, Sports and Family Day, football, bowling, trips and many more.."

What to Prepare

- all the usual stuff likes, visa application,Medical check-up,Passport, etc
- Quran,ma’thurat,qiblah compass
- white light bulb: standart size and screw (most bulbs here in UK are screw type).
- one piece of jacket/sweater is sufficient. You will get your chance to do some shopping here once you arrive.
- thermal wear - 1-2 pieces.
- instants paste and malaysian groceries : various cubes (chicken, tomyam, ikan bilis etc), dried food (cili kering, udang kering, ikan bilis), curry powder, herbs & spices (cinnamon etc) these food can be found here but a bit too expensive compared to malaysia and sometime it just don't feel like Malaysia brand :P

Contact Person

Brother:

Nama: Muhammad Imran Ishak
Email: muhdimran90@yahoo.com
Phone No: +447706976427 or 0163891916
Course: Electrical Engineering
School: ECS

Sisters:

Nama: Nur Izzaty Rosni
email: eezzaty56@yahoo.com
phone : +447598762830 or 0199263634
Course : Mathematics
School : school of mathematics

Nama: Nurul Asyikeen Shaukat Ali
email: asyikeenshaukat@yahoo.com
Phone : +447510868239 or 0134271747
Course : Mathematics
School : School of MathematicsIzzuddin Yussofhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16294688607604961268noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1701981143273245818.post-49434160987331678652011-05-07T16:21:00.007+01:002011-07-09T00:19:06.520+01:00London School of Economics

London School of Economics and Political Science

- located in the heart of central London - imagine walking past office buildings, and *poof!* suddenly there's LSE
- a prestigious university attracting lots of world-renowned personalities.
- buildings are situated close together for maximum walking pleasure.
- LSE is proud to be a single-faculty university, catering only to the social sciences.

Facilities

- a cosy prayer room with wudhu' and toilet facilities
- one of the biggest social science libraries in the world
- a small gym
- a skybridge overlooking the library plaza

Course

normally, malaysians do one of these 3 courses:
- Accounting & Finance
- Economics
- Actuarial Science
but we occasionally get people doing cool-sounding courses like International Relations, Government etc.
There are a lot of malaysians each year at the LSE, but malaysian muslims amount to 10++ in each year.

Accommodation

1st year
- first years normally live in one of the many halls on offer at LSE. there is a distance-cost trade-off for halls: the closer to LSE, the more bite out of your wallet. expect to travel for 10-20 minutes using public transport, which in London is superb. Our recommendations:
- Northumberland Hall
- Roseberry Hall
- Intercollegiate/Hughes Parry Hall

2nd years and above
- usually live in private rented residences with a group of friends. don't worry as houses in London are pretty inexpensive, especially when shared. fact: East London is cheaper than West London.

Life as a Muslim

London has a large and growing community of muslims, so you don't need to worry about feeling alienated/alone. Most of the suburbs nowadays have community mosques, and LSE has a wonderful prayer room with friendly ISoc (islamic society) members! also living as a minority has increased our appreciation for Islam :-)

"i look at the West and i see Islam without muslims, i look at the East and i see muslims without Islam."

Halal Food

Food! one of the highest priorities of malaysian students. halal (and super cheap) chicken-and-chip shops are plentiful, as are halal butchers. the prices are amazingly cheap, considering London is the capital of the UK! Since it is an ancient university, expect those streams of tourists from all over the world, almost all-year round. If you’re one of those who love the ranks, Trinity is 52nd in QS World University Rankings 2010 (Wohoo, not bad eh?). Not only that, the School of Medicine is celebrating our Tercentenary (300 years; 1711-2011, that’s how old we are! *clap..clap..*) this year, so a lot of activities have been going to celebrate such achievement. Located 7 minutes from the heart of Dublin and a minute from the famous pedestrian walk of Grafton Street, you’ll find the surroundings as charming and lively.

Worried on how you’ll get by the new surroundings and all? Don’t worry, we have the first week of the academic year for Freshers' Week (before all those gruesome lectures). The university will offer you official orientation sessions covering introduction to university life and services, computer access, including Library and Sports Centre tours. Yet, there are so many clubs and societies out there opening their booths promoting the activities. Rock climbing, shooting, South East Asian, Islamic Society, the Students Union - It all depends on you to decide which of those might suit yourself. (You’ll have us as well to boss you … err… to help you of course!!!)

Facilities

There is a prayer room located at Gold Smith Halls [nun jauh disana] It is the only prayer room in Trinity and we Malaysians call it ‘Gua Thur’ (Trinity and all the mystics and mysteries surrounding them). Even though it might sound far, the new building of School of Medicine will be up and running next term and they’re quite near to each other, as well as other Sciences faculties (now that tells you about Muslims students here. Yes, most of us are Science students but there are students from other faculties as well).

Have we told you about our magnificent Sports Centre? It has a 25 metre, 6 lane swimming pools with a floating floor, a large fitness theatre with over 60 exercise stations, an 11 metre high climbing wall, a fitness studio and a spin studio, sauna and steam room and two large sports halls. Outdoor facilities on campus include Croquet Lawn, Tennis Courts, Rugby, Soccer and Cricket pitches along with a running track in the summer. Off campus there are extensive playing fields at Santry and the Trinity Boat Club has its boathouse on the River Liffey at Islandbridge. (All these from the TCD website, of course! You guys should check it out.) Not only that, we have superb Science gallery, numerous Arts galleries and the famous Book of Kells.

Course

Compared to both RCSI and UCD, entrance of Malaysian students in Trinity every year is in a small number, and they’re usually under government sponsorship [MARA + JPA] for both Medicine and Dentistry courses. For example this year, we have 13 meds and dentistry first years combined. However, there are still opportunities for those pursuing post grads education here in under subjects as well, and Trinity is famous as the central hub of research in Ireland.

Accommodation

Malaysian students are always given the spot in Trinity Hall but you can also opt to live with Malaysian, Irish or International students as well around Dublin. (However, First year students under MARA are obliged to stay in the Trinity Hall).

Non EU students can apply as soon as they have confirmed acceptance of an offer of a place in Trinity College and have received their Trinity ID number. You may choose your roommates (two singles spacious bedroom) if you know their full name and student number. And you can stay there for maximum 2 years. The rent for halls usually goes in every term. You can leave before the next term starts (better for you bank account) but you must give the accommodation office at least 1 month's notice and it helps if you can find people willing to take your spot. If you decide to leave before the term is over, they won't refund your money.

There are 3 ways to get to campus from halls:

1. BUS
If you are willing to walk to Rathmines town (~15-20 mins walk) you can take buses 14, 14A, 15, 15A. There is a bus that stops right outside halls: bus 128. Most people take this one. If you take the bus, the journey itself is usually about 20-30 minutes during off-peak hours. However, the buses come less frequently off-peak.

2. LUAS.
LUAS is like LRT but it runs on street level. There are 2 lines in Dublin city: Green (Southside) and Red (Northside). Since halls and Trinity are on the Southside, you would be taking the Green line.
The nearest stop for halls is Milltown (about 15 mins walk). You take the LUAS to the last stop, St Stephen's Green, and walk from there to Trinity (~10 mins). The whole journey takes about 20 mins.
Basically, both services cost about the same. People who don't really like walking very far usually take the bus I think.

3. FOOT
It’s possible to walk. It takes about 45 minutes. I suppose it's ok to walk in autumn but in winter it would be quite terrible (rain, wind, cold etc).
The walking route people take is the one followed by the bus.

Life as a Muslim

Alhamdulilla, even though we have the least number of Malaysian student, but we don't feel "asing" because there are other muslim international student around. you can meet and know them or even work with them, when you join Muslim Student Association MSA. There will be frequent islamic talk and program happening here that you definitely don't want to miss. For Jumaat prayers, usually brothers will perform it at the TCD's prayer room so you don't have to go somewhere else far.

Halal Food

It is most convenient to cook. You can get halal chicken easily from halal shops. there is one in Rathmines, which is the nearest to the Halls. The price is relatively cheap and insyaAllah it will be much more cheaper than eating outside. You just need some willpower and a little bit of cooking skills! There is also Asian foodstores, known as Oriental Emporium. This is the place to get materials such as rempah, maggi, kicap, sos cap megi, rare materials such as pandan leaves, serai, fish and shrimps, coconut milk and many more. Nevertheless, eating out is still an option. There are not many halal food restaurants around, but you can still get them nonetheless. I personally think that the price is relatively cheaper in UK than in Ireland.

Malaysian Community

In Ireland, we have quite a big malaysian community, especially in Dublin and most of them are students. We also have many Malaysian doctors as well. During Eid celebration, we usually gather at the malaysian hall to celebrate with fellow malaysians and feel the Eid atmosphere. As for the malaysian community in our university, as mentioned before, it is quite small as there are not many malaysian students in TCD. However, there are two societies that are usually being participated by the malaysians; they are the muslim student association (along with the other muslims) and south east asian society (with other asians).

What to Prepare

Same with other uni, buy related books [depends on the course, u can ask seniors about this] it is better to buy books from Malaysia. It offers you the vibrant city life, minus the unnecessary hustle and bustle that one would find in London. It is a city which is rich in tradition, but at the same time maintains its elite status as the hub of aerospace in the UK where well-known company like airbus, rolls-royce, and agusta westland proud themselves in spear heading the nations' technological advancement. Although it is unfortunately less known in Malaysia , University of Bristol is a must for those who would like to further their education in one of UK's top ranking university, especially in its medical, engineering, chemical, and law faculties.

Facilities

International airport is nearby, where you could find very cheap tickets from budget airlines(RyanAir and EasyJet) to Spain, Amsterdam, and many others! One of the airlines, KLM, is a partner of Malaysia Airlines, and provides the journey to Malaysia, with a transit in Amsterdam. This means that you dont have to go all the way(3-4hours) to the airport in London. All other basic facilities, such as prayer room, gym, swimming pool, are available.

Course

Chemistry, Law, Medicine, and Engineering.
There are approximately 30 undergraduate students in total.

Accommodation

Freshers usually lives in accommodation halls near the city, within walking distance to the university(10-15minutes). Neighbours with Trinity College Dublin (TCD) which is just around 10-15 mins walking distance away. Easily accessible by bus, cycling or walking.

To YOU being a person wanting to know more about this place, keep on reading! :) and if you don't, you're still welcome here.

What it’s like in RCSI

The College of Surgeons as the locals call it is a wonderful place to study where you'll find eager freshies of many, many nationalities coming together to learn about medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and physiotherapy. It's a unique sight. Turn your head right, left, forwards and backwards in the lecture theatre (O'Flanagan it's called. You'd spend most of your 1st year there) and you'd see irish, canadians, arabs, africans, chinese, thai, korean and malaysians around you. Truly a melting pot of cultures.

Basically, in this college we don't have to walk a lot. It's just a one block building! ;D Don't fret about being bored of the place because you won't be. You'll be too busy diligently studying, balancing your academic life and your student life to be bored.

Facilities:
1. Mercer library (great condusive place to study, many reference materials available)
2. computer lab
3. Coffee dock (when you're sleepy in lectures, pop down to the coffee dock and get a cuppa)
4. AK Henry Restaurant (where they serve great halal food, do ask for halal prep though)
5. fully-equipped gym, and indoor sports facilities including basketball court (multi purpose use for volleyball, badminton, indoor football, archery practice even), squash court.
6. Most importantly, there is a PRAYER ROOM complete with wudhu' facilities. Even solat jumaat is being done here. For sisters on Friday, you'll pray in the Friendship room next door where you can still here the khutbah.
*of course, most of these places are accessible using your student card. you'll get it done on your registration day insyaAllah.

Around the RCSI main building, there are also several restaurants you can pop into to get lunch or dinner if AK Henry is too packed or you want to try something new that’s not packed lunch from home.

We have Zaika Restaurant, they offer delicious 5 euro lunchtime meals (you’ll probably think that 5 euro is quite a lot (and it is) but nevertheless, it’s an option laid out for you)

and we have WakIn noodles (an asian taste at last! also 4-5 euro). In RC, its done quite differently. Your course is divided into cycles starting with Junior cycle, followed by Intermediate cycle and ending with Senior cycle. So, when you come into rc for the first time, you'll be in JC 1 and that's junior cycle 1. you've got JC 1, JC 2, JC 3. Then comes IC 1, IC 2, IC 3 and finally, insyaAllah is SC 1 and SC 2. and when all that's done with, insyaAllah what we'll become is an RCSI graduate doctor ready to serve.

First things first, do know that you'll be getting a FREE LAPTOP upon registration; and in your homepage in the laptop will be the RCSI MOODLE. It's got everything important for your study in rcsi; lecture notes (which you'll print beforehand and can read before lecture), useful videos posted by the lecturers, past year questions; simply said, everything useful for your course.

In your first semester of being a medical student at RCSI, this is what you’ll learn if there are no major changes:
-Neuromuscular (NM)
-Concepts and principles in biochemistry (CPB)
-Health and behaviour in society (HBS)
-Haemotology and Immune system (HIS)
-Alimentary system (AS)
-Clinical competencies (CC)

Alhamdulillah, having been given the opportunity to study here allows you to get early exposure onto the medical profession. You'll be very lucky to study anatomy in the anatomy room twice a week with your group of less than 10 and use the cadavers there well. You can practice dissecting with respect and care and trying a hand at getting the Best Dissection award for your table; practice reading x-rays, ct scans and mri's or you could just get to know your anatomy real well and marvel at the magnificent creation set in front of you.

Like it or not, you will know your anatomy very, very well because you have cardsignings to do. and what's that? well it has nothing to do with signing cards. What it is though is oral anatomy test. Nervous though you may be, it’s a good experience to get you talking in medical terms and testing your anatomy knowledge.

Talking of tests, in RCSI, it's a continuous and summative assessment throughout the year. Those cardsignings (you'll have 3 per sem) are worth about 2.5% each. You'll have 2 MCQ'S (multiple choice questions) per sem and it'll comprise of sets of questions from each module you've learnt (2.5% marks allocated for each module in the MCQ). It used to be done online..now, we have it in the exam halls. Research projects and presentations..don't worry about them. yet. For JC 1 there'll only be one individual research project for health, behaviour and society (HBS). Simply said, for your first year here, you'll have plenty of time to study and do well for your exams since it’s not a packed year for you.

You'll be learning clinical competencies too and this is where lots of practical sessions come into action. You'll learn how to use the stethoscope here, how to take pulses, how to do history takings of a patient, and also on how to do GI (gastrointestinal), respiratory and cardiac exams on a life model (actors). Really cool and you'll feel quite competent as a future doctor insyaAllah. :)

Life in Dublin?

$$$ For sponsored students (MARA and JPA), you’ll get rate A allowance. and that’s about 935 euro per month; times that by 4 and you’ll be one very rich person in Malaysia for your age. For students lucky enough to not have debts with the gov and mara, your financial supporter will settle this for you, I’m sure.

Advice for all? Manage your money well. Upon registering as an RCSI student on your first day, you’ll be advised on setting up a bank account. 3 choices- AIB (Allied Irish Bank), Ulster Bank and BOI (Bank of Ireland). You’ll find many seniors telling you to open up an account in AIB; because that’s what their seniors told them to do! and the seniors before that told those seniors and so on. But really, it’s your choice. Go and look at the leaflets and ask the representatives of the banks to talk to you and explain things.

We opted for AIB coz it’ll be easier for the sponsors to handle the monthly allowance for all of us. :)

You can have another personal account in the same bank or a different one if you like. But having a savings account is highly recommended for all.

Don’t worry, you’ve got your helpful seniors to lend you a hand with all these new grown-up stuff (and we haven’t talked about rents and bills yet have we??). In Ireland, internet banking is practiced widely. Everything really is just a click away so life is made much more simple, alhamdulillah.

Accommodation

For a soon-to-be RCSI student, you’d most probably want to know about where you’ll be staying and what’s the place like, no?

Well, the one special thing about your accommodation is, you’ve got to look one for yourself! Technically speaking, the seniors will offer to search reasonable houses for you and your friends to stay. But there you go. We’re not staying in college accommodation. Millin House and Mercer Court...let’s just say that our money is better spent someplace else. The rent there is as much as your monthly allowance dear adik2. @_@

So, what choices do you have?
LOTS and LOTS of choices. :D

We’ll talk more about this in the pre-dep, so yes, do come to to JOM!

What’s the housing area like?

In general, most of the Malaysian student community (from RCSI and TCD usually) will tend to cluster around the Dublin Mosque area - South Circular Road, Harold’s Cross, Rathmines and that’s good. For guys and gals, brothers and sisters, you can pray jemaah 5 times a day be it in RCSI’s prayer room or in Dublin Mosque or at home even! Consider yourselves lucky.

This area will be around 20-25 min walk to college and 10 mins by bus (20 min if you take the bus before or at 9 am). You’ll learn the Irish walk soon enough (they walk really fast, no kidding)... Time and tide waits for no man, so they say.

Now, for food...’where do you get halal meat and halal groceries from?’ you may ask. Another reason why we like to make a perkampungan rkyt malaysia in that area is coz you have a wide array of halal shops there. Who says its difficult to find halal food here? There’s Halal Food Groceries, Four Seasons Halal Shop, Timgad Groceries, EasiShop (also another grocer), Favourite Fried Chicken (FFC), Rico’s (you have to try the taco fries from Rico’s. absolutely amazing), La Boulangerie (delicious pastries and cakes from here, yummy!) and ALDI and Lidl stores. The last two offers a huge selection of suitable for vege food you’ll be glad to know. And this is not the whole list. There are other shops and restaurants to treat yourself and your friends and your neigbours with if ever you feel like eating good food (though home-made is still the best).

In short, you don’t have to dread about eating bread and pasta and pizza every day. You’ll learn to cook up some good Malaysian and western food (if you haven’t already done so at home). You could see a huge cultural diversity; not only in the student population but also in the native population of the city. They are from all over the world; Cyprus, Costa Rica, Iceland, Singapore, Hong kong, Japan, Germany, Belgium, Pakistan and the list just goes on. And that makes student life in Sheffield very special because they have the opportunity to interact and learn about different cultures. We can’t really get that experience when studying in our home country. The University of Sheffield is centred around the City Centre itself and is a very nice place to study. Indeed, it's also one of the top universities in the UK.

Facilities

At sheffield, you will be able to enjoy your life with so many facilities around you such as:

-Libraries (there are 3 libraries. Information commons is the biggest one. The other two are Western Bank Library and St George’s Library)
-Sports centre, with many interesting facilities such as swimming pool, bouldering, gym and many more. There is a specific time slot for university hall residents to use for free but otherwise you would have to pay.
-Prayer room (located in the Student Union, St Frederick Mappin Building and Information Commons)
-Piano room (can be booked in the Student Union)

University of sheffield also hasthe Best Student Union in UK- receives award for this nearly every year!

Apart from the university ones, we have a wide range of facilities in Sheffield which you might like:

-An ice skating rink
-A ski village
-Multiple gyms and swimming pools- way cheaper than the university ones
-A bowling centre
-Meadowhall shopping mall!

Course

Malaysians mainly do science, accountancy, engineering and mathematics. And those who stayed at university halls in the first year would opt for a house the next year. However should you wish to remain in university halls for your second year you may do so. Freshers would usually be allocated in a building with only freshers. Most of the university halls are quite far from most of the department building and are a bit more expensive but you get your money’s worth.

University hall

If you’re an engineering student, it is advisable to apply for Opal 1 or Opal 2 or Broad Lane Court which is near to Engineering Department. St Georges (the church converted into hall and lecture theatre) is said to be a bit stuffy so that's not recommended. These are the hall located near the city centre. They say Endcliffe and Ranmoor is far from everything so think carefully before choosing.

If you’re a muslim, it’s better to choose a self-catered hall.

Private Hall

Again, near the city centre, there’s West One(is said to be very expensive), Broco, St George (not the church, this one is next to Opal 2).

Private houses

Broomhall area - 15 minutes walk to city centre, 10 minutes walk to library and Student Union. Nearly half of the price of the university halls per month.

Life as a Muslim

We have Muslim Welfare House Sheffield (MWHS) which is a mosque and a Community Centre. It aims to serve the needs of Muslim and indigenous community of Sheffield.
There are also plenty of Islamic socities in the UK such as the University of Sheffield Islamic Society (USIC) whose members compose of muslim students from all over the world. They often hold islamic talks and events at the uni involving reputable scholars in the UK. There are also various societies registered with the Malaysian Student Department who offer islamic circles and programmes amongst the Malays as well.

Halal Food

You will have no regrets leaving all the kicap, Maggi, etc as we have TAI SUN here in Sheffield! This is a small, simple, convenient store where you buy your asian food. e.g noodles, Chinese buns, variety types of sauces etc.

It's unbelievable that you can find Milo, Adabi, perencah Brahim and even Kipas Udang! Though the price is a lot higher than Malaysia, at least it is there for our own convenience if we run out of stock! hehe.

Yafai and Sons- which is a local butcher and groceries shop situated in Broomhall where most of the private houses Malaysians opt to stay is. They have quite cheap halal meat and a wide range of Asian food as well.

There are few others halal shops here and you don’t have to worry about it at all.

Halal fast foods and middle eastern foods are available in many streets at affordable prices.

Malaysian Community

We have a lot of Malaysian undergraduates as well as postgraduates who have quite a close relationship. We celebrate eid together, have ‘foster families’ and tend to visit each other during festivals and celebrations.

What to Prepare

At least a pair of warm inner clothing before you find better ones.
Stationaries ( test pad, pen ). Mechanical pencil(s) and lead since I don’t think they have them here.
Your preferred bag (for class, for outings) as the range of bags sold here isn’t as wide as in Malaysia.
Basic food to bring are: santan, cili kering and ikan bilis. most of the others you can get here.
Ibadah related stuff such as telekung, quran tafsir, almathurat, etc.
Our traditional dress: baju kurung/baju melayu because we do have traditional celebrations/ events here as well where you might want to have a few of these dresses with you.

According to a survey of 26 university towns and cities in the Natwest Student Living Index 2008, living costs for Sheffield students are the 3rd lowest in the UK.

Also, you get a lot of student discount on buses and public transports in sheffield where you cannot get anywhere else. Welcome to Aberdeen! Basically, this university is located in Scotland, about 3 hours journey from Glasgow and 2 hours and half from the capital city of Scotland which is Edinburgh by train. To imagine how far it is from London; it is about 12 hours by bus, 7 hours by train,1 hours and half by airplane...heehee...and one more!It is more or less like Terengganu in Malaysia; located north east of UK, oil and gas city, and has beautiful beaches ^_^

Facilities

A few facilities here are A Million-Volume Library, New Library Project, Computing & Service Desk, Museums & Special Collections, High-Tech Language Learning, Student Learning Service and Aberdeen Sports Village.

Besides, you can join any activities such as cooking class, art class, or anything organised by the community centre in you neighbourhood ;)

Course

There are not so many Malaysian students here and the majority of them are postgraduates with their family. For undergraduates, not so many students come each year. In 2010, there are only 5 Malaysian students who came to do Medicine; 2 Malay guys, 2 Chinese girls and 1 Malay girl whom are all first year Medical Students. Four of them are self sponsored while only one is sponsored by Government of Malaysia. However, there are also a few students who come from International Medical University(IMU) to do clinical section in February which means they would come here as fourth year medical students (twinning program).

University of Aberdeen is divided into two; Medical School and also Old Aberdeen(main campus). In medical school (which is 30 minutes walk from the main campus) is where the students who take science subject would study or do research. In Old Aberdeen, there are a few Malaysian students who take Mathematics, English, Islamic studies and etc. In such course here, it is not weird if you are the only Malaysian in your batch;D

There is also another university in Aberdeen which is called Robert Gordon University but as far as I know, Malaysian students there are all self-sponsored and their courses are architecture, quantity surveyor and others. Sometimes, Aberdeen University medical students might go to RGU, having courses like Interpersonal Education (IPE) which gathers all medical profession.

Accommodation

For first years, there are Halls of Residence which are a mixture of individual rooms within houses or flats, available on a catered and self catered basis. However, Malaysian students are more likely to rent a house near the university.

Life as a Muslim

Being a Muslim, now and then, here and there^^...it is practical anywhere, anytime...You don't have to worry about people acceptance or whatever. In fact, people here are very open minded to different culture or religion. The key thing is, ""If you are open minded to them, they would be open minded to you as well""...

It would be more interesting because I think here you would be more practical! You wouldn't really want to find a prayer room if you are rushing to next class or lecture so you just pray at any place which is clean and doesn't disrupt people. However, if want a more proper and nice place, you can go to the prayer room. On Friday, girls usually go to ""quiet room"" (in the chapel) because boys would use the prayer room for Jumaat prayer.

Even though Aberdeen is quite far up north, it wouldn't be a problem for you to join many Islamic courses or programs across UK and Ireland. You can join programs such as Winter Gathering, Spring Camp and many other conferences or anything similar to that.
Get buses, trains or flights...they are all accessible from here!

Halal Food

Are you a big-eater? Or are you the one who have ""perut Malaysia"" that you couldn't help but to eat rice everyday???Ha-ha, not to worry because you can get rice easily at the mini-market, supermarket or any Halal shops here.

Basically, you can get everything at Halal shop...Everything?hurm...not really everything but I think you know what I mean..huhu...Anyway, you can get almost all stuff that you need to cook Asian food...Just say it!""Tom Yum""? ""Nasi lemak""?""Beriyani?""..you can make it...even if you are not a very good cook, you can get ready-made paste. Just add water, vegetables, stir, cook a bit and then done!=))

If it is not halal shop, you can just see the label if the food is suitable for ""vegetarian"" and contain no alcohol...but here, you might find it funny especially to say that you are ""vegetarian"" who eat halal meat ;p

Malaysian Community

As I said before, there are not so many Malaysians here but that makes us very close to each other. We would gather in events like Eid, Maulidur Rasul, or anything organised by Persatuan Melayu Aberdeen (PMA). Sometimes, we would have activity like picnic or gathering at different houses. Even though it is basically Malay Association, we do have even non-Malaysian who come and join us in the event. So, don't think that we are anti-social ;) he-he..

What to Prepare

I don't think I've to ask you to bring shirts or something like that. But just an advice maybe for medical students-to-be, I suggest that you guys bring your stethoscope from Malaysia because it would be more expensive here T_T...

And maybe you wanna buy a few reference books in Malaysia? But pleasex3 don't worry to much about that. I can say it would be quite advantage that not so many students coming to Aberdeen that the seniors will just pass their reference books, or any notes which are useful to the juniors(>_^)...But if you wanna buy yours, you can contact any senior to ask for the list..heehee...We are more than happy to help!

Being here, of course we need to be independent especially if we are the only Malaysian, the only Muslim or other 'the only'...but the best thing is that you would learn a lot throughout your study. You won't just get a scroll for your academia but at the same time you can get more life experience that of course you have never got before! Come and experience it!

Have you ever heard about ""Scottish accent""???...That might be a slightly tricky bit once you are here but it would be fine. You just have to sit with them, nodding or anything for the very first time and after that, without you realise you might have that Scottish accent! Isn't that cool? ha-ha

Contact Person

Name:Rabiatul Adawiah binti A Basir
Email/skype:rabiatuladawiah5056@ymail.com
Phone number:+447512428683

For more information, visit the University Website

Izzuddin Yussofhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16294688607604961268noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1701981143273245818.post-29593272680217007422011-05-04T19:44:00.005+01:002011-05-07T23:24:40.498+01:00Lancaster University

Lancaster is known as a very peaceful place, located in the north west area in UK, making it famous with its countryside view and environment. Having a university in the country side area means its a very good environment to study; an added value of Lancaster university is that it's a compact uni so everything is within walking distance and easy for everybody to enjoy all the facilities provided by the university. Lancaster is also ranked as the safest city in the UK, not just ranked in the paper, but it really is true! We can also feel the safe environment here. It's a very cute little British town.

Currently ranked as a top 10 UK university and in the top 125 universities in the world, Lancaster University is becoming one of the main choice for students to go to. We have good facilities, healthy environment and warm society to accompany you along your journey here.

Facilities

As a college university, we do have accommodations available for students. The transportation here is also satisfying, with rapid bus services and a train service in town . We have male and female prayer rooms in the university, taken care of by the Muslim Society here. Prayer mosque is provided by Lancaster University for muslims and even Jumaah Prayer is held every week in that particular mosque. Don't worry about resources, since we have a nice library, equipped with computers and other essential study and learning kit, sufficient for all. For all active sporty people out there, there is a new sports center, due to open very soon. You can swim, play basketball or netball, badminton, tennis etc. Lancaster is very well known for the beautiful and calm scenery, even inside the university. Such a conducive environment for students to study.

A point to be made, Lancaster university has very modern architecture and many facilities are there, trying to make a perfect student life for everybody. Lancaster uni is very much helpful for students and also librarians there are kind and nice to students. It also provides many facilities for student to enjoy with. If u do not really like the study environment in library, there is a very contemporary place to study known as Learning Zone. There, u can peacefully study without bothering to keep silent, u can eat and having as many discussion as u want. also provided here, u can book a room to make discussion or presentation. laptops and ipads are here to be borrowed by you. so u do not have to bring your own laptop everytime. :)

Course

Lancaster University's Management School is a triple-accredited, world-ranked management school, consistently among the UK's top five. Thus, most Malaysians here are future-accountants, economists and doing business-related field of study. But there are also Biology, Mathematics and Physic's students here. There are approximately 250 Malaysians in Lancaster University, from undergraduates and postgraduates, doing various courses and research. Lancaster university is also one of the favourite university for Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) where there are number of students taking mathematics, physics and biology whose sponsor is MOE.

Accommodation

Usually, first years would want to try to live in the hall provided. It is much easier to manage since the payments are all inclusive, and you will travel a shorter distance to go to class. However, due to increasing in the rate of rents and payments, it is advisable for you to contact any of us here, to search for a house available for you. Just be in a group of 3 to 6 people, and we will try to find a good house for you insyaAllah. It will be much money-saving than living in the hall. But for those who want to develop their survival and social skills, the hall might be a better choice.

Many Malaysian undergraduates choose to live off campus since it gives a cheaper living option, more comfortable accommodation, homely and many more. However if living off campus, students have to travel to university by bus for about 10-15 minutes. but this is not something to be worried as well since there are frequent buses operate everyday.

Life as a Muslim
Life as a muslim here is such a wonderful experience. we can easily and freely practice our religion here without oppression. People here are very nice friendly; the result of being a little British town and a countryside area alhamdulillah. As stated earlier, the university provides a special room for Muslims to pray in University and it is very comfortable, huge and homely.

As mentioned before, we have quite a good and active Muslim Society. In fact, we do have a Malaysian Muslim Society as well. We have Lancaster University Muslim SOCiety (LUMSOC), Hal EhwaL Wanita (HELWA) for Malaysian girls and women, and Majlis Ilmu for the boys and men. There are a lot of activities held by these societies. Islamic talks, Awareness Week, Hafazan and Tafseer Class, Arabic Language Class and many more. We also have gathering among us Malaysians once in two weeks usually, to share thoughts and views on any islamic issue. HELWA and Majlis Ilmu are also responsible in celebrating Eid Ul Fitri and Eid Ul Adha.

Halal Food

Malaysian are famous with our delicious and creative food. Getting halal food is not really hard here. At the university itself, there are two halal fast food restaurants and at Lancaster town, various fast food stalls are there for you. :) The nearest shop for raw halal meat is at Preston( about 15minutes by train), however, undergraduate students are lucky as we have many postgraduates student whom always travel to Preston to buy the raw meat. So, we can just kindly ask them for help; it's is a tradition that'going on for ages.

Food meanwhile is not a big problem in Lancaster since Malaysian are likely to gain their weight here. isn't it a proven fact? ^_^. Oriental food is aslo easy to find as there are two oriental shops at Lancaster town where one of them is owned by Malaysian Chinese, famous as 'kedai uncle wong'. We can go to those places by bus or train. There are also two oriental food store in town for those who are craving for Malaysian food or other Asian dishes. They do sell Kicap Kipas Udang, Sos Cili Maggi, dried chillies, DURIAN......

Malaysian Community

The Malaysian community at Lancaster University is just a small one in terms of number compared to other uni, since the university iself is a small one. So, it is easy to know each other and we are very close, like a big happy family. Lancaster University Malaysian Student Society (LUMSS) represents us, Malaysians in the university and is also active in organizing programmes for Malaysians. Besides that, there is also HELWA, a sub-society under LUMMS specially for women in Lancaster.

What to Prepare

Going abroad will definitely give headaches for each and everyone of us in dealing with what to prepare. As far as I'm concerned, there is nothing much to bring here because shoes, clothes, jackets and other things are easy to find, and might be more appropriate since we are in a four seasons country. However for muslimah, appropriate shirt like long shirts are certainly cheaper in Malaysia. I myself do not prefer stationary like pencils and erasers here, so i do bring some of them from Malaysia. Also many might prefer to bring instant food, paste, and rempah ratus from Malaysia ^_^

Bring with you an open heart and open mind here. Then you will find your life in Lancaster a hard one for you not to remember. Do not hesitate to ask us anything, we are here to help in any way we can, insyaAllah.

Contact Person

Name :Nor Izzati Alzolmin
Email : zatie2307@gmail.com
YM : zatie_phega
Skype : zatie06
UK hp no : +447561261483

Contact details for brother will be updated laterIzzuddin Yussofhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16294688607604961268noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1701981143273245818.post-23524829721215019672011-05-04T19:26:00.007+01:002011-05-07T23:02:29.049+01:00University College Cork
Cork County is The Rebel County. So yes, we are always unique to the rest of the state.

Personally, when I first heard of it, I was like, ""Cork? What an uncool name!"" Well, indeed it is! but definitely not the people! Believe me!~ Cork has such a vibrant and positive aura, exception - on Thursday and Friday nights where the roads are busy with drunk people *sigh*. The people are friendly and we have a significant number of Muslim community here.

UCC is considered not only a respected University but also one of the nicest 'gardens' belonging to Cork as a whole. The campus is situated along a riverside garden setting, radiating a warm, personal charm, which greatly enhances the learning environment. I took this from the university website. But, I can assure you, it is not something like "indah kabar dari rupa". Needless to say more. It is better for you to experience it yourself.

Facilities

Hmm.. in terms of the facilities, UCC has almost everything a student could want. We have a huge Sport Arena with first-rate sporting facilities; swimming pool, climbing-wall et cetera. And of course, it is FREE for all students. And the new Boole Library is just MASSIVE and SUPERB. Oh, our university ID is better-looking than the other uni as well. Hik hik hik..

For us, the Muslim students, the school has provided such a comfy prayer room in the Health Science Building and it even has a sink and basin for us to take wudu'. Just don't forget about the swapping every Friday between the brothers and sisters. Talk about some day-mare when you open the door to just a whole different species staring at you. @_@

Course

Most undergraduates are studying Medicine and a small proportion are doing Dentistry. There are also Post-graduates who are studying Nursing and Engineering. In total there are roughly 120 Malaysians; so it's a much smaller community compared to Dublin, but hey, we are much more happier and friendlier than the Dubliners!

Accommodation

Basically, first year students will be staying in the Students' Hall, known as the (not-so-white-) Castlewhite Apartment. I hate saying this but you have no choice but to live in an apartment with local students and other international students. It was a good experience anyway staying with non-Malaysians but sometimes, you really have to be extra patient with them.

But fret not, who knows, insyaAllah you'll meet some of the coolest vegetarian Americans and non-party-drinking-Irish ever! Amin to that!!

Life as a Muslim

IT'S AWESOME!! Do I need to say how many times I'm blessed to actually be a Muslim?? Really, Islam pulls you through every single day in Medicine (and Dentistry!!) and when you get to learn Psychiatry one day, oh my...:)

UCC has our own Islamic Society called Muslim Cultural Society; it's a great society which has better themselves (or better, ourselves, insyaAllah) since its beginning. Every single Muslim Malaysian student of UCC have associated themselves wth MCS's history, so why don't you be a part of the history as well??

We also have the Cork Mosque; and the whole Muslim community always try to get together in every single event organized by either the Cork Mosque itself, the Cork Mosque Women Group and UCC MCS.

Halal Food

Halal food is not a problem:) Just come here and we'll show you more (or better, we'll cook for you!! One house has all the machines to become a bakery, really)

Malaysian Community

Malaysians are not the majority here (as you may have pictured); but our experience of living in a multi-cultural country will help us to adapt to new people and the new things surrounding us. Encountering new people, new dialect (oh, the Cork accent can be quite difficult to follow; be ready to speed up that speaking speed!), new buildings, new air and atmosphere can be exhausting at times, but most of the juniors who arrived here, in 3 months time will be obliged to say how happy they are to come to Cork. Oh no, not because they have the most loving and caring seniors ever (thank you¬) but Allah has blessed Cork with great people overall.

Here, we hope that all Malaysians will be able to grow into better people that can shine and contribute their best for the Ummah, Islam and our beloved Malaysia now and in the future.

What to prepare?

Passport. Haha. You need to pass the security check first!

Okay, here's a summarized list. The rest will shared more at JOM:
1. Al-Quran (with terjemahan is better)
2. Stationeries (you thought you wouldn't be needing them, won't you?)
3. Notepads (for taking down notes in lectures)
* don't buy 5-6 of them, just 1-2 is enough for the start of the term. Notepads are pretty expensive here.
4. Clothes- your usual daily clothes, socks, pants, tudung etc3.
5. Rempah makanan Malaysia that you just can't live without. Like Ruski, right? Or serunding! Or your mom's secret ingredients.
6. Medical books!!- contact your person listed below.

Okay, for coat or sweater, DON'T bring the winter thick ones from Malaysia. Because there are still time before winter when you get here and plus, they have better designs here as well. Seriously. If you have to bring one, best to bring the one that have hoodies as well. Cause if you haven't heard, Ireland rains all year round.

When you have reached this paragraph, you'll probably realized that we're trying to exaggerate, a lil bit romanticizing but not distorting or fabricating the truth about living in Cork nor studying in UCC. It's a great city to live in insyaAllah. If you're the city-person type, Ireland is not the place for you anyway; but open your heart and sooner than later you'll be missing Cork each time you went away :)

Contact Person

Ahmad Zuhri Shin Abd Halim
2nd Medicine
Email: ashinet89@yahoo.com
Phone: +353857238042

Syukri Hassan
2nd Medicine
Email: Super5yuk@yahoo.com

Najihah Hassan
2nd Medicine
Email: najihah.hassan@yahoo.com

Tun Nur Syahirah Tun Razak
3rd Dentistry
Email: syahirah_tunIzzuddin Yussofhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16294688607604961268noreply@blogger.com3
